TASKS of the youth centre
Our organisation is a youth centre whose purpose is to promote young people without regard of political views and religious beliefs. Young people shall have the possibility – outside school or place of work - to spend their spare time in a sensible way, such as taking part in cultural events (clubbing, concerts and theatre), in sports activities and in any other activities they wish. Our youth centre contributes the rooms and the staff who can support them and help them in any case and with any problems.
Our youth centre is a meeting point where the youths can get information that are personally important for them and can help them with their problems. They can also learn to take responsibility for themselves and for the community. But it is also an area where the kids and teens can be among themselves and can communicate informally.
The target group are young adults (age 13 – 21). Since we are located in the centre of the school campus of our town we get lots of different visitors.
Acitivities
Our main activities are:
Sports activities: at the moment mainly snooker, table soccer and table tennis – we organise tournaments, besides we go on skiing and snowboarding trips, in summer we go swimming and cycling.
Culture: as there is a very active cultural life in our town we try to encourage our kids to use the various offers and in a further step to actively take part in it themselves by organising events or parts of events themselves.
Other activities: Our kids love cooking and eating –we make use of this fact and encourage their communication, community and responsibility.
We also organise excursions at weekends and during their holidays – we try to let them choose and organise their destinations themselves.
Traditional and religious festivities, such as Christmas, Carnival, and Easter, are celebrated, too, yet partly in a modern way. Our aim is to make them get to know and learn (more) about our culture (again). We have found out by doing this we are able to get a very close contact to our kids and teens.
Furthermore, we try to find out each person’s abilities and try to encourage the teenagers to improve his or her abilities. There are some young people who are interested in photography, in the internet and in handicraft, in painting or sports.
The youth centre mustn’t be seen as a competitor to other associations and organisations of Perg. It is an additional offer for our young people in town.
